The "goals" of Islam (moral, America, faith, catholic)

I was listening to a Christian radio broadcast about the differences between Islam and Christianity.

The host brought up what he believed to be the "goals" of the Islamic faith.... and I was hoping Muslims on the forum could clarify the truth of these:

1. Convert the entire world's population to Islam.

2. Impose Islamic law on the entire world's population.

.... now, I knew about #1, but is sharia (sp?) law part of the Islamic vision for world domination? I didn't think every Muslim country had this form of law (Turkey for instance).

Well..... kinda embarrassed to say he's one of my favorite Catholic talk show hosts.... and normally he's charitable to all, but I would have to admit "alarmist" would not be too bad a description.

If you look at the policies of USA you will see the irony:

1) Convert the entire world's popuation to embrace democracy

2)Impose democracy on the entire world's population.

I am not saying democracy is bad; what i am saying is that islam should be looked at as a political movement like socialism and communism, not as simply a religious movement

(off topic, sorry) What's really absurd is that statement. When America developed the atomic bomb no single entity in the history of humankind held the destructive power and military might of the United States.

The end of WWII also gave the country a perfect opportunity to advance any imperialist notions it might have had. AAMOF I can't think of a single instance in history when a conqueror has done otherwise.

The US could have easily taken over any country they wanted. They chose the moral path and went home.

Here is one imam's opinion (although it doesn't address the OP directly, it seems to reflect the viewpoint that it is inherent upon them to spread Islam throughout the world), it would be interesting to hear from others what they think.

You should understand that we as Muslims firmly believe that the person who doesn't believe in Allah as he is required to, is a disbeliever who would be doomed to Hell eternally. Thus what is meant by the passage in Tafsir Uthmani, is that if a country doesn't allow the propagation of Islam to its inhabitants in a suitable manner or creates hindrances to this, then the Muslim ruler would be justifying in waging Jihad against this country, so that the message of Islam can reach its inhabitants, thus saving them from the Fire of Jahannum.
