Yes I believe that a certian amount of pride is necessary for our Well being.
Isn't " feeling good" about ourselves a form of pride? What about self confidence? and don't we all pride ourselves on our beliefs?

People with nothing still have pride. So I doubt the DL meant it in the way it is portrayed here. I think his message is more along the lines of those with more having to hold themselves to higher standards, himself included because having more is a burden at the end of the day.

I suspect a certain amount of pride may be a functional psychological asset in a modern, competitive society, but I feel that pride should be based on personal accomplishment if it is to contribute to personal growth.
Pride based on accidental characteristics such as race, nationality, religion, &c I see as divisive and malignant.

We need some pride to make our character in the means of a normal character. None are completetly pride-free of their actions.

But too much isnt good because it can make you big-headed. People normally choose not to socialise with those who are big-headed. A balanced of pride is good, as well as natural.

I personally agree with the Dalai Lama. I guess it also depends on what one is proud of.I know some people from a tiny caribbean island that take great pride in their heritage, something I can not relate to at all. But I realize that it is vital for some people.
