I must admit that I've gone through a veritable roller coaster with my faith. Raised catholic (loosely), then turned athiest (was an angry kid because of life circumstances), went through a wierd modern spirituality thing, tried to go to christainity, but ended up being a Deist. (Only religion that closely matches my current(?) faith.)
With all the religions out there, Judaism, Muslim, Christainity, Wicca, blah blah blah, what can and/or should people really believe in? Seems that, as far as, the three major religions go, Christianity, Judaism and Muslim, you'll rot in hell if you don't choose correctly. Seems a kind of drastic penalty based on the fact that their arguments mimic each other. Each have their martyrs and miracles. Each have their distinct beliefs and, unfortunately, each then breaks down even further into different denominations. Meaning that once you choose the "right one", you then have to choose the right denomination. OY!! For me, after going through and, trying, to find God, I ended up just plain believing. I can't tell you what God wants. I can't say why God made the universe. I don't even know if God is male/female/both/neither/one/many. All I can go by is how the world reacts. Why do I believe in God? Maybe because I was brought up with that belief, and I can't let it go. I look at the world and just can't see it as being all created by accident. Everything runs too perfectly to believe in chaos. At least for me. How do I achieve my stand on issues? Gay marriages, abortions, eating meat on Fridays. I figure if God was against gay marriage, or homosexuality in general, then homosexuality wouldn't exsist in the first place. As for abortions, I am against it, personally, but can see the arguements made for it as being legitament. I do think that the father should have a 50 percent say in it, unless it was due to rape, but that's another debate for another time. When it comes to eating meat on fridays. I like meat. I like meat on fridays. 'Nuff said. I know, I know. I need to get right with the Lord. I'm an infidel. Whatever. My judge, from what I've been told, is not a believer in the Bible, Koran, Torah or anything else. Hopefully, when and if I meet my maker, he/she/them/it will see me as me and not as my religion. I don't know if this would fall under the debate category. I just figured, maybe, someone out there would be able to tell/show me which religion is the "true" religion without giving me the same arguements everyone else has. Before I'm condemned to a torment that I'm not even sure exist, for a reason, I'm not really sure is valid. |

There is no answer. Because the only person who can tell you what to believe is you.
No matter what anybody says, nobody knows beyond a doubt what the "right religion" is. You don't just pick one because someone told you it's right. You believe in something because you think its right. If you let others, or the opinions of others, dictate your faith, you'll always be confused.

Everyone has different spiritual temperments and different ways that will lead them back to God.

Why is it necessary to pick a religion.
They are extraordinarily overrated. |

So's crunchy peanut butter, but people still get brainwashed into eating that crap.

I wonder why you put the word true in quotations here. I think you're too skeptical to be converted to any religion I know of.

sleske,
I could tell you what "the true religion" is, but it wouldn't do you any good. Even though I believe that there is such a thing as "the true religion," I have also been around for long enough to realize that what works for one person isn't necessarily going to work for someone else. I wish you well in your search, though. This forum is a great place to explore a wide variety of beliefs.
