What is the point in believeing in things? (Earth, choice)

Belief is simply what you know.

you can believe what I say
You can believe that I said it
You can believe that it is untrue

These are all thing s that you Can know.

You can believe it is in the Bible (Knowledge)
You can believe Jesus said it (inference)
You can believe it is true (faith)

Belief can be many things it does not of itself ensure truth.

"Belief" is not interchangeable with "Faith"

Right; but I'd say rather it is an aspect of knowing: "know" implies certainty, and "believe" implies confidence. They are not contraditory, as some people profess.

Believing that you know something is not the same as knowing it. Lots of people believe that they know all sorts of things that they don't really know.

For example; lots of people believe that they know there is a great wall in China. But never having been there to experience it's existence, themselves, they don't actually know that it's there. They believe that it's there because they've seen pictures and been told by others that it's there. But they really don't know that it's there because to know something requires personal experience of it. One's knowledge could still be wrong, but at least one could ligitimately claim to know it.

but i dont really agree, i dont see a purpose in belief.

isnt belief nothing more than admitting you dont know, but you will treat what you believe in as if it were fact anyway? does anyone see what is wrong with that?

i believe in nothing, i either know something, or i do not know something...

Actually, they would only know of the claim that the wall exists. Unless they have experienced the wall, themselves, they would not have knowledge of the existence of the actual wall. To possess knowledge of something means having an experience of it. Reading about the wall in a book is an experience, true, but it's not an experience of the wall. It's an experience of information in a book about the wall.

Knowing something, and knowing about something, are not the same thing, even though they may both lead us into a given belief. I think it's important that we keeps these differences in mind, and especially keep in mind the many ways in which we could be in error about what we know, what we think we know, and what we believe.

Yes. The reality that we imagine in our minds is a complex of beliefs, and in many ways will not accurately reflect the reality that actually surrounds us. Which is why it's important that we keep this in mind, and be willing to change our beliefs as the evidence of our experiences with objective reality dictate.
