No we do not. According to our Offical documents order to be a real "Church" at all you must have two things. A valid bishopric and a valid Eucharist. The Mormons have neither in our view. Therefore they are not a Church. Maybe you could call then ecclesial like bodies We(Catholic church) also hold that in order to be a valid Christian, a person must hold to the Truth taught by the Holy Spirit in the Catholic Councils on the nature of God. In other words you must believe in the historic Trinity and have valid Trinitarian baptism which is the sacrament that enters us into Christ body. Therefore inour viw the mormons are only Psuedo-Christian or Christian like but not actually formally christians. This is not to say that they may not make it to heaven. They may by Christ grace and Mercy(As all of us may) but they are not Christians in the formal sense in our view. Last edited by athanasius; 04-28-2007 at 01:07 PM. |

NO. By by our Catholic understanding and offical church teaching, no church is a real church unless it has valid bishopric and valid Eucharist. So the eastern Orthodox "Are" actually churches to us. The protestants we call "Ecclesial communities" and not churches becuase they do not hold the Valid bishopric and Eucharist. But they(Protestants) "are" christians because they beleive in the Trinity and more importantly have been validly baptized in the name of the Trinity. And to us the sacrament of baptism is how one is made christian and united to the family of Christ. So they(prots) are christian but are not real churches. But Mormons to us are not christian(they are Psuedo christian or christian like). I hope that clarifies things. |

Mormons are baptized in the name of the trinity.

They baptize in the same formula (In the Name) but not the intention. Intention to baptize in the name of the historic understanding of the Trinity is needed to be "validly" baptized according to Christ Jesus as he speaks through his Catholic church. We must want to baptise the person imnto the real Jesus, the real God as he has revealed it through his Catholic church historically and ask for that from God. Again becuase of this, they remain Pseudo Christian or Christian like but not real christians to us Catholics and to our understanding.

I think I'm going to just call everyone's attention to my new signature as then steer clear of this conversation. Mother Teresa, God bless her, stated my opinion as well as I could myself. (Becky, I didn't realize you were such a machocist at heart!)

I'm not a machochist!
I was just curious because I was under the impression that Catholics thought we were Christian. Perhaps I should have stuck in the discussion section! |
