What eludes many people is, freedom of religion means ALL RELIGIONS!!!
I really would not lose too much sleep over people who do not give you the respect that is due. They think similar religions to them are going to burn in hell. They truly love you, but have an ignorant way of showing that love. They did show love and support as well as ignorance. They think they have to get everyone saved. As a former Pagan Witch and Ceremonial Magickan, I can show the same ignorance in the Pagan world. Some people believe Wiccans to be goody two shoes and say a Witch that cannot hex will not be able to heal as well. People who study Witchcraft abhor the Wiccians. Magickans know that magick has to have balance from both sides to be powerful. Still, Wiccans are very nice people who live by a simple code. They don't see the need for the dark side of magic and are happy spiritual people at one with the Goddess. This mentality is similar to sports team fan's, everyone just has to get used to differences, so long as it does not limit you from practicing your religion. Where the Church was doing something wrong, was when they tried to force their religion on you. The tenants of their religion state that they are to plant the seeds and let God do this work, not man. To work so hard to bring souls to Christ, is edifying yourself and not giving the glory to God. People who try too hard to "save you" most often have the opposite affect on people. Your stay with these people is akin to a free vacation, but you must tour these time shares situation. Now a slick way to try and convert a Pagan, (I am laying my cards on the table) is to let them live their life as they please, do not judge them, inform them that most Pagans convert to Christianity on their death bed and you are fine with that either way. Be their friend and be there for them regardless of their decisions. See, I plant the seed. That is all I am suppose to do. I am a fisher of men and women and have learned that a tight fishing line is not always the best way to catch a fish. The best fish need to be given a little slack on the line. Light and Love, Reverend Rick

if they convert on their death bed out of fear of what comes after they were never really a pagan and should not be called such...fence sitter is more like it. those are the only people I actually despise, claiming their entire life that they are a pagan, or any religion for that matter, they believe in it 100% etc etc. then when they get close to death, betray their life. not only does it go against what I believe, but it just seems wrong to me.
EDIT-- Rick, you have now made it certain I will never embrace christianity again, no matter what. its not that I'm mad...its a matter of personal pride now, so in essence you just reinforced me....when my pride gets in the way I can do just about anything. heres my basic formula Me+ enough pride to choke a horse+ someone telling me I will/Will not do something+ my stubborness= backfire of the persons plans...or was it your intent to reinforce my beliefs? It certainly sounds like you've been through a rough time, and I'm sorry for that. I hope you'll be able to meet some of our Christians that embody (what I believe, at least) the teachings of Christ. They are kind, helpful, thoughtful, caring and compassionate toward people in pain. Many of our Pagans who've been around the forums for awhile have found a great personal connection to them, sometimes so much that it helps to heal unpleasant experiences in the past.
Something that has helped me when I have felt concerned when people have tried to 'convert me back' is that they're most likely trying to do so out of love. In some of their traditions, it is taught that if you do not accept certain things, you are condemned to hell, and those that are caring truly are concerned that you will not be spending eternity with them in the company of god. Let some part of you accept this as a form of love, but be good enough to yourself to acknowledge that, as you respect other traditions and the people in those traditions, your own path deserves respect, as well.

Hi Goldlioness,
You could not have picked a better place to join. This forum has the best group of religious folks I have ever seen. If you are looking for a Christian and Pagan group see if there is a Unitarian Universalist church near you. Pagans are very welcome and we have several in our congregation. There is even a group within UU for Pagans called CUUPS, Covenant of Unitarian Universalists PaganS. And if you are going to read the Bible, may I suggest a copy of the New Jerusalem Bible, I find it the be the easist to read and understand as it is a translation into modern language not old English like the King James. Take care and I hope you are recovering well, Trey

You might be right about yourself. Then again, you don't know what kind of person you will be if you live to grow old. Either way, I enjoy our exchanges and would never preach to you if we hung out IRL. or on the net.

There are religions who feel Christianity is pagan. If I were a religious person I would have to agree. I wouldn't let it bother you at all.
