yeah, the story behind this is (and i'm not sure if this is historically accurate or not...) that King James' family had previously been (and possibly still were, in his time) persecuted by witches.

i can't remember what it was supposed to have said before the change he made, was it "do not suffer a murderer to live"?

I heard somewhere that it was originally supposed to be "well-poisoner". As desert dwelling people, poisoning the well was a terrible crime. I don't have anything to back it up, but it's worth looking into.

In the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, it claims the word "witch" in hebrew as:
"3784 kashaph, a prim. root; prop. to whisper a spell, i.e. to inchant or practise magic:--sorcerer, (use) witch (-craft)."
However, in the Webster's New World Hebrew Dictionary, the term "kashaph", can be broken into two parts: a root word, "kash", meaning, "straw, herb, reed", and "hapaleh", or "casting, bringing down, using." Combined, these words translate into "using/casting herbs/straws/reeds" - one who uses herbs.
So a better translation is "one who uses/has knowledge of herbs".

This may not be too far fetched. Although there is no rebellion in using herbs for healing purposes, it may very well have been that the person who used herbs also cast spells to ward off evil spirits. This is basicly what shamanism is in a multitude of cultures. Some shamans were apt to call on evil spirits to cast out evil spirits. This is what Nicky Cruz said his family practiced.

never heard of that. not once, it would just be a worse problem, if you use an evil spirit, it would have to be stronger than the other one, then you would have a stronger evil spirit in place of the weaker one. bravo...and uhh...who is Nicky Cruz?

In the JST (Joseph Smith Translation), Joseph Smith changed the word witch to murderer. So, for me that clears up all the hate against witches/warlocks/wiccans/pagans; but perhaps that's just me.

That's something I told you. I got it from either The Encyclopedia of World Faiths, ed. by Peter Bishop and Michael Darton, or Sect, 'Cults' and Alternative Religions, by David V. Barret. I never wrote down the quote or the info, but those were the books I was researching theology in at the time, so it's probably in one of them.

But don't quote me on that!
