No, not ALL chrsitians do that, however there are more then enough of them out there doing that same thing. Giving the christians who try to live peacefully a bad name. It's a generalization because thats what people see & thats where sterotyping comes in to play. Alot of christians bring on themselves.

But is it a personal attack? It's a general attack that everybody (except perhaps the original poster) agrees is based on an gross overgeneralization. It's an attack on someone's perception of what a "Christian" is. Isn't that a perfect opportunity to correct the speaker's or poster's overgeneralization? Attacking back seems like it would just reinforce it.

Your anecdotal experience is vastly different from mine. To be honest, I don't know what it means to be around 'hateful' or nasty or hypocritical Christians, because I never have been, even when I wasn't a Christian. I have been around a lot of nasty, hateful PEOPLE who were definitely not of any religious persuasion that I could discern.

I really don't think so. Maybe your animosity is showing? I couldn't say, not being you or living near you. But it seems to me people treat you as you treat them for the most part, no matter what brand label you have pasted on your forehead.

So when someone has a beef with Christians I fully understand and would like to discuss these problems. We should just be careful not to condemn the whole faith, for the actions of individuals within it.

My opinion is, if you don't like the "anti-christian" posts, then don't read them. I'm not trying so sound abrasive here, so please don't take me the wrong way, this is an open religious form.... so most opinions should be welcome. Conversely, I usually avoid Christian posts, no pun intended.

I agree that's where the stereotyping comes from. But when it is turned around and used on Christians who don't do that, it hurts innocent people. No amount of "they started it" will justify that. Saying that some (or even many) Christians have done it to non-Christians doesn't make it alright to do the same thing to all Christians in general. If there must be blame and retaliation (if there must) then address it specifically to the individuals who have done the hurting, not to the group of people who happen to identify under the same label.

i'm split down the proverbial middle here

on one hand, i myself have posted anti-christian posts, there are certain key issues i can see inside of the christian religion that i disagree with, and i am happy to voice that disagreement.

but i have never been rude, hostile or disrespectful towards the people who follow christianity

when i raise my voice about some of the issues i disagree with, i would like to think i don't post ridiculus, over exagerated, generalised pain-brushed arguments. i would also like to think that i support the points i make, show coherent argument and am reasonable.




but on the other hand, i do see some posts that are just blatantly misrepresenting the christian position and judging and bashing unnecessarily. this i disagree with, it does neither side any good and just works up hostilities.

by and large though, i see more respectful debate posts that are against the christian position than i do disrespectful and hostile ones.
