They've set up some standards, but "sticking noses" to me means something a lot more intrusive than that. I've not heard of the Church giving anyone the third degree about contraceptive use or snooping around the medicine cabinet, anyway.

None taken. I have to say, the element of hypocrisy doesn't do much for me either. I mean, I will happily make allowances for the fact that humans, even religious leaders, do make mistakes, but when problems like that look systemic, that's another matter.

Maybe it helps that I was an atheist myself for years, but I've never had a problem understanding why someone might be an atheist, considering the problems religions have had and still have with hypocrisy. (Yeah, and some other things as well.)

Non-existance upon death is scary for most people because it means a permanant good-bye. For those who have lost little ones or any loved one for that matter, the thought of no life after death is very scary.
