I've overheard here & there how God used Hurricane Katrina to punish those in Louisina, But didnt God promise not to use water to punish the world again? Now some of you may say well Louisana is just ONE state NOT the world.
BUT lets just say that God did punish those people. Does it matter how much of the earth he covered? A lot of people believe that the bible should not be taken Literally. When you read an English translation of the biblical account of the flood, you will undoubtedly notice many words and verses that seem to suggest that the waters covered the all of planet earth. However, one should note that today we look at everything from a global perspective, whereas the Bible usually refers to local geography. We know that this reference is not really to the earth at all (and certainly not to the "whole earth"), but to the people of the earth, who all lived in one geographic location. It wasn't until later that God scattered the people over the face of the earth. If the flood were global, there would be no place for the waters to recede to. Likewise, a wind would not significantly affect a global flood, further suggesting that the Genesis flood was local in extent. Gen 6:11 now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence. Now was God talking about the Entire Earth? Remember God had not yet scattered the nations. I don't see how Genesis would be relevant to anything in Louisiana.

I think that bad weather is a natural evil.

1. Various people in authority ignored the fact that the "protections" weren't really good enough. 2. People have been destroying wetlands thereby destroying natural protections that were there for decades. etc. Certainly there was a real hurricane that was natural but the effects were intensified because of human behavior. --des |

G-d's promise was to never destroy mankinf with a flood. Not the use of weather as punishment.
Bereishit (Gen.)9:11 11. And I will establish My covenant with you, and never again will all flesh be cut off by the flood waters, and there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth."

God actually said He would not destroy the earth and all flesh by water. See quotes.... Gen 9v15: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. Gen 9v11: And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

Yeah but it doesnt mean he meant globally. Earth can be any size of dry land, he never did specify.

God says lots of things, little contradictions and massive contradictions don't mean a thing when somebody's infallible. If you believe in that sort of thing...
I'm feeling kinda sarcastic this morning... |
