A Non-Christian Misrepresents Christianity (Jesus, ritual, mystic, spiritual, miracles)

you know there are lots of stories of Resurection in Native American religions.
Many of these incidents had plenty of witnesses.

just wanted to throw that out there.

isn't it funny how many religions cling to the same 'evidences' to prove thier 'truth'.

My religion may believe miracles happen, but we don't use them as proof of anything, because miracles really make lousy proofs anyway. Some of the reasons have already been mentioned here.

As a practical matter, miracles are only "proof" for those present, and even then, the skeptics will claim it was done with mirrors.

There are better "proofs" to look at.

We can do it tomorrow. I know of a few, but I'm sure there are many more than I know and I'd be highly interested in learning about others.

agreed

miricles are one of many 'proofs' used, prophecy, warm fuzzies ect. I was just point out that it seem whenever a religious person wants to 'prove' thier religion they all seem to do so with the same criteria.

back to the op, worrying about non-christians misrepresnting Christianity seems like small potatos when you look at all the Christians doing the same thing.

Just saw that laughable assertion, Booko. I must, however, join others in asking a source for said claim. It's easy to make empty assertions and rather fruitless to attempt to combat them if someone is unwilling to back them up. I can say that many supporters of the idea base some of their claims on faulty translation (which early Fathers could not have fallen to), I know of no evidence at all for the Rapture prior to the 19th century and it is certainly not a Patristic belief, whether ante- or post-Nicene. Finally, chiliasm was condemned as a heresy quite early. It is true that there were some who advocated the idea (minus the Rapture though) in the early church, but it was never the mainstream view and many of those who did advocate it (such as Origen) were hardly what you would call orthodox.

I'm not sure what relevance miracles have for me as a "proof" of a religion. I'm rather more interested in how a religion ressonates with me spiritually. For instance, I think Jesus's imperative to love others as we love ourselves is far more spiritually profound than all the miracles he performed. If I was choosing a religion, I would pay way more attention to that imperative than I would to his miracles.
