Some believe that its not important which religion you belong to because all religions lead to God, as long as you are a good/moral person then that is enough to have Gods approval?
I'd be interested in hearing your opinions? |

(If not, one of the mods will be happy to move it to General Religious Debates, but I thought it would be good to be clear about your intent in the OP. Interesting topic, btw.) |

unfortunately, it is often the case that a religious path may bring one closer to an idea of God while allowing one's heart to close against fellow peoples. Somalia's in trouble again. much of Iraq is a bog of blood and schrapnel. if we pick and choose where we would like to see and respect God's spirit, it is much easier to turn against select peoples in the name of faith.

It depends how sophisticated your view of God is. Abrahmic literalists will never swear by the same God, though they pretend He be the one they all reverence.
There are three main ways to conceptualize God: by the book, with the intellect and in the heart. Those who follow a path to Him by the book will find it paved by dissent and disharmony with fellow human beings and fellow believers. Those who take their chosen path to God by the intellect alone will never find Him, for all they will find is a cold ideation that divides Man in his heart. Those who follow a path to God by the heart are offered the possibility of uniting in their minds the many diverse meanings and symbolisms that God represents and may come to form a relationship with God in the sense that as the believer acts, he or she then acts as one with God. All paths could be said to lead to God if the latter sort of person were the most common and the way of the heart freely chose by the majority, but this is not so: the love of world, flesh and strife are in many a believers hearts as they prefer the book or the intellect because these ways demand nothing of them and offer possibilities for power over their fellow human beings. Were it possible to change this we would. I think it is a most convincing argument for the state of sin or fallen nature we are said to possess that we repeatedly generation after generation fail to transcend the impulse to cripple ourselves spiritually. However, instead of despairing of our own nature and God we can @ accept the offer of Hope that it won't always be so. Then, perhaps, all paths will lead to love where God resides. |

I don't believe they do. The more important question is if a road not leading to God can still get God's approval?

I believe all paths lead to God. Considering the vast amount of religions that were created by man, I can't see God blaming anybody for following a religion that resonates with them(of course that is if the religon doesn't promote hurting others etc). After all, most people choose a spiritual path that resonates with them. It's impossible to know which religion is the right one. Just my opinion of course.
