But to be honest, I don't think the kind of people who would form violent mobs and riot over things like this are very likely to care how it makes them or their fellows look.

I don't know much about the congressman in that article but, it could also be that he was responding to what he thinks his voters want to hear instead of what he feels is a viable solution in middle eastern politics. Many represenatives have two completely different conversations. One to the voters where they just say what the voters want to hear and the other ones with the lobbiests and other congressmen about they are really doing in their day-to-day job.
If he is just mouthing off what he thinks his voters want to hear unfortunately he probably did a pretty good job at voting garderning. I am pretty solidly convinced that a very large percentage of the voting potpulation, espcially in the bible belt of America are so out of touch with international politcs that an idea like "converting muslim countries to Christianty" might seem like a viable and realistic option. |

another option is we could just let them live PEACEFULLY I wish america would pull out of all the middle east so the muslims can live their "PEACEFUL" lives. Because they are so "PEACEFUL" |

"Converting the Muslims to Christianity by force", as a political platform, might get you elected president in America.
We'll see.
