Nixon was still impeached, he resigned because he knew his "goose was cooked," no need for further impeachement proceedings or embarassment. Last edited by FFH; 01-31-2008 at 05:04 PM.. |

Barry Goldwater convinced Nixon that impeachment was inevitable. Nixon had a very short window to quit before being actually fired, and he took it.

Does it really make any difference whether I'm fired by my district manager and the owner ??? I can appeal to the owner, but if I'm guilty, it makes no difference, I can't fight it, so I resign. Nixon did the same. He was fired by the House and not the Senate, so it was a "partial" impeachment, if you will, not a full impeachment. Nixon resigned because he knew he would be fired by the Senate also. Nixon was facing a full impeachement by the House and the Senate, so he resigns, rather than allow a full vote to be cast in the Senate. He voluntarily accepted his "partial" impeachement, by resigning, because he knew the inevitable would happen, and he couldn't fight it. He was impeached to the extent that he voluntarily quit rather than fight it further. Is that any less of an impeachement or an admitance of guilt ??? If you're not guilty you continue to fight. Being impeached is a legal process, FFH. One can be charged with a crime and the charges dismissed later or the charges never come to trial.
Until the House presents the case to the senate, and the senate is convened with the CHief Justice of the Supreme Court presiding there is no trial no verdict-----no impeachment. Regards, Scott

The House Judiciary Committee voted to recommend impeachment. This is not impeachment. That requires a floor vote of the whole House. And then the Senate votes to convict or acquit. |

You guys are looking for some loophole that doesn't exist. I really don't think any of us really fully understand the term impeach.
For example: Clinton was impeached, but then acquitted, but that still does not erase the fact that he was impeached. Last edited by FFH; 01-31-2008 at 10:03 PM.. |
