I have trouble with people who think that just because you become a Christian means instant ticket to heaven. That sort of thinking have made many people committing both crimes and sins, and think they can do safely without consequences.

I hoped that you are not one of those people, Natey, because you would be no better than the Muslim terrorists.

So where do you get your references for the overwhelming majority? There is nothing wrong with having assurance in your salvation.

Becoming a true Christian is an instant ticket to heaven. Sure if your heart isn't right and you don't really become a Christian because you want to, you just become a Christian because you want to be able to do all this bad stuff and still go to heaven then that commitment is not genuine. And that is between that person and God. But as soon as someone genuinely believes that Jesus is their savior, if they died 2 seconds after that they would go to heaven.

Easy, we, the Roman Catholics and the Oriental Orthodox (even the Nestorians come to think of it) reject the idea of an assurance of salvation. That's absolutely all the churches before the Reformation (so for the fiirst millennium and a half). Many Protestants also reject it, but even without them the 1.1 billion RCs, 250-300 million Orthodox, I'm not sure how many Oriental Orthodox and Nestorians easily outnumbers the remaining Christians since the Reformation.

I've heard the it's based totally on Allah's mercy and that Muhammad didn't even 100% know if he was going to heaven or not.
This is true in a sense. Now every muslim if you believe in the Quran and follow Muhammed through his sunnah will get to Heaven, every "mulsim" will. But the question is will they go to hellfire first. You see muslims will go to hellfire too for the sins they have committed. But every person who has Iman equal to a mustard seed in the heart will enter paradise. But will the first stop be in Hellfire first for a little sin purification only Allah knows. You distance yourself from Hellfire by the deeds you do for the sake of gaining Allah's forgiveness.

If you die in a state of Islam and you worship one God and believe Muhammed to be his last and final Messenger then it applies. However if a person rejects certain things within the religion it will pull him out of the religion. For example if a muslim disbelieves in something in the Quran but believes in everything else he may be taken out of the fold of Islam. Or Allah says 5 prayers and you say I don't have to pray that much God knows I love him then that person to is on dangerous ground.

Now if a person does not believe in Allah and the Messenger then the punishment is eternal hellfire. A muslim must believe in these things without question to be considered a muslim anything taken out of this list the person according to scholars and the hadith of the Messenger is not muslim.

1. Allah
2. The divne books (all of them and everything in them in their unaltered state)
3. The Messengers and prophets all 124,000 prophets 315 of which are Messengers. (all of them)
4. The angels and the Unseen (al Ghaib) this includes the jinn
5. The Day of Judgment where all of creation will be judged on his actions.
6. The divine Decree of Allah. (What ever happens is through the will of Allah)

If one does not believe in all these principles he or she may have taken themself out of the fold of Islam and may be doomed eternally, but all muslims will enter paradise either immediately or after spending some time in Hellfire.

Depends Do any of these things take you away from the worship of Allah or are more important than performing the duties Allah has prescribed on you then yes it would be unforgivable.

ok I was reading the teachings of an Imam and he said that Allahs punishment wasnt eternal and because he was merciful the sin would match the amount of time spent in hell.

Does that ring true?
