I think most of us will give pretty much anything we have to someone in need -- provided we aren't inconvenienced by the loss. It's not a sacrifice to give of oneself as long as we have plenty left over. Whether it be food, clothing, cash or anything else, if we figure we can make someone else's life more pleseant without making ours less pleasant, we're willing to be very generous. If there is sacrifice involved, however, that's something else again.
For this reason, I personally find that time is one thing I have a harder time giving up than anything else. Any time that I give up to benefit someone else is going to affect me.
