i just see myself as ship wondering in the sea of life, just enjoying everything around me, going nowhere. and i feel calm when i think of that.

Yes, your soul adds to the eternal spirit with everything you do. God is connected to you and experiences everything right along with you.

We advance as individuals by choosing to join with God and upon mortal death we start a great journey.

We advance as a human species through evolution of the mind with new thoughts, new ideas, and new beliefs. In the next one hundred years science will discover proof of the human soul. People will see that we are all God's children and lay down their weapons.

There is also the advancement of the earth. A great change is coming.

You're assuming that God did not intend diversity of belief and viewpoint.

You're assuming that "belief" and "practice" are formulaic and definitive in nature instead of relational and revelational.

My answer will be thus:
Because this life is not eternal. Because there is an after life that is awaiting for us.
Because we are undergoing a test and since this life is a test, so we must expect good and bad things to happen, we must expect to undergo hardships as well as easiness, we must undergo the test with all what the word test means. So we must be obdient to the One who created us. The One who created us knows what's good for us and what's bad for us, so why don't we just submit ourselves to Him and obey Him?
By obeying Him I know I am on the right path and I feel complete happiness and contentment and I know for sure that I will be rewarded.
