I showed hard facts that the official SBC website contains articles about Mormons while the LDS website has zero about Baptists. For good or bad, why do Baptists feel the need to discuss Mormonism? |

The idea of comparative religion in a Sunday School setting is mind boggling to me. It sounds like something that should be taught in a college where it can (hopefully) be presented from a unbiased, historical point-of-view. |

Back in the day, in addition to the 'mainstream' Protestant denominations, we visited LDS, Greek Orthodox, Jewish Temple, UU, Roman Catholic, and Hare Krishna. I know we spoke with some Baha'i, but I'm thinking they came to visit us. I can't remember if the Baha'i Center had opened in the late 80's or not.Sometime tomorrow when I'm fully awake(crazy weekend ), I'll check out the Southern Baptist site and see what they say about LDS. I think it might educational to see what they say about them.

Just out of curiosity I just checked the very first article that came up. It's an article called "the Truth about Mormonism," which, ironically, contains little truth, but twisted words meant to confuse. Anyway, it attempts to bring down Joseph Smith and Brigham Young then it pleads with LDS readers to pray to God and denounce their false worship.
This is the very first article that shows up when you search "Mormon" on the SBC. Why the hell do they need to spend their time doing this? Stick to your own church's teaching and leave others alone. |

And if what you're saying is true...than I'm assuming that your statement applies to ALL religions...including the UU's...who if I'm not mistaking spend A LOT of time discussing other religions. And it was ONE or TWO lessons, where we discussed other religions. Sometimes learning about OTHER religions...helps you to learn MORE about your own. Although there is much about our faiths that are similar...there is also much that is different...and if one doesn't learn about those differences...one is going to assume...and probably assume incorrectly. Other than those lessons...I've never been to a sermon where another religion is mentioned...unless that religion is brought up to prove some sort of point.
