Okay, which religous group is most persecuted in any form or fashion over all the others?
We already do this anyway, we cry and complain about the ill things people have done towards our beliefs. Every group has experienced this rejection and ignorance from others. Why do we have to say, "i'm WAY more tortured than you are!" And when it comes to the Holocaust (which was a terrible thing) have any of the Jews who are on this forum experienced it? It's time to let go of the past, and take our persecutions as blessings! They're too ignorant to understand you!!! Yes, its wrong for people to harm, destroy, and attack those of other races, religions, and opinions.... but tell me who doesnt suffer that? THE ACTUAL POINT: (as FANTASTICALLY put by our Scarlett Wampus) "Surely what's being highlighted here is that we are all capable of persecution and at some point or another we ourselves, our ancestors, or people of the religion/philosophical outlook we identify with have been subject to persecution. Who does not suffer? And who does not want it to end? We have to acknowledge that others suffer as well as ourselves and that they want it to stop as well as we do. That at least is one thing that unites us all." Last edited by Buttons*; 03-13-2006 at 09:13 AM. |

You are right.
I love you Ashley. I think the only problem we have is when other faiths don't recognize that other faiths are persecuted and even if they do, they do nothing to stop it. That's the only problem. |

I agree, people who dont want to be persecuted for their stance should definatley aid in the defence of others hoping to find the same freedom. It's not fair sometimes how Islam and LDS is talked down to so much, especailly on this forum! It really should stop.
However, it shouldnt come down to a match of: "I suffer more than you do!" |

When do we cross the line between rebuking and persecuting?

It seems this way of thinking transcends religion - it includes race and gender issues as well. Sometimes it's important to remember the past and sometimes it's not. In some ways (and please don't take this the wrong way) I'm glad Joseph Smith was killed because he became a martyr that the Church could unify behind and identify with.
By the way, if we were going to have a ******* contest, I think the Jews would win hands down. |

it varies with time and place. during the Christian reformation, the Menonites or Anabaptists were almost wiped out of existence . The Christian Armenians underwent genocide in Turkey at the turn of the last century. All sorts of religions were persecutted under the USSR, Maoist China etc. Pol pot almost wiped out all religions in Cambodia Muslims in Boznia, underwent genocide under Milosevij Today Christians in Dar Fur, Tamils in Ceylon, Hindus in Kasmir, and Bahais in Iran are suffering genocide! All in all a sad record i am afraid Ushta Te Ashai |

I find the Jews quite difficult to feel sorry for at times.
