South Dakota UUs fought state abortion ban

South Dakota's UUs are risking public censure and even harassment for protesting abortion ban.

Not even Mahala Bach’s story about being raped as an eighth grader was enough to sway South Dakota legislators who were bent on removing the right to an abortion.

Nor were the stories and efforts of many other women and men, a good number of them Unitarian Universalists, who drove for hours, walked the halls of the legislature, and protested on its steps time and again. On February 24 the legislature voted to ban nearly all abortions in the state and sent the measure to the governor who said he is inclined to sign it.

The UU congregation in South Dakota needs to start a phone and email campaign to the governor. They need to call others in South Dakota find out who is for and against this and get them to contact the govenor. They need to find out if their governor is a Christian to see how to address it. If so "seperation of church and state" if not than "don't forward a Christian objective" after that either way they need him to feel his job is in danger come re-election if he signs this bill. I live too far from S.D. to know much about it I bet it, as a rurual state is actually pretty Christian.

Yay for the right to life of innocent unborn!

Now the reactions to opposing views(flaming liquid on the lawns, threats) are horrible. I would never support that.

What dose it have to do with the perscution of UUs? What did I miss?

I am not quite sure... I think it has to do with the last paragraph where UUs wrote letters to the editor of a newspaper and got threats, and one had 'flaming liquid' thrown on their lawn...

1) only christians support it
2) it is based on the theory that life begins once the egg is fertilized based on a notion of a soul. This theory of life is not held by secular science and biology.

Not only Christians support it, I have friends(not necissarily in South Dakota, but this is general) that are Buddhist, Muslim, Atheist, Pagan, etc. that oppose abortions.

Any organizations that are not Christian. Also your belief in a soul is a central and strong reason for your displeasure in correct?

Come again. Sorry I'm not following this for some reason. Could you state in more simplar terms? I'm tired and for some bizzare reason I'm not following what you are saying.
