UUs Persecuted in Christian South Dakota (church, atheist, pagan, abortion)

I confess that I was pushing the envelope in labeling the treatment of UUs in South Dakota as persecution--but I was getting tired of the constant Christian rant that they were being "persecuted."

I doubt that many Christians get threatening phone calls or get flaming garbage dumped on their lawns, though.

If that's what you want to focus on in the article, I think you missed an important comment:

Thanks for the confession. It is refreshing to see someone reconsider something they posted around here. The title sure got my attention though.

No one should persecute anyone because of their views on the abortion issue. I won't listen to so called "Christian" radio anymore because of their constant reporting of unfounded Christian persecution stories. You can only cry "Wolf" so many times and people stop listening to you.

Once we denie the rights of people to protest legally and peacefully, we all suffer.

I'm not in the least recosidering what I posted. I am merely being honest about why I posted it.

When I published a letter in a local paper protesting the South Dakota abortion ban, I got a nasty phone call very early in the morning.

Now, I am a reasonable Atheist. I see lots of letters to the editor that I don't agree with but I respect the rights of those people to state their views and I can try to get a letter published in disagreement. I am not a Christian and I don't have to make nasty phone calls or dump flammable stuff on somebody's lawn because I disagree with them.

This thread is making out Christians to be the bad guys, the persecuters of the UUs, but really isn't it a matter of people disagreeing because of their pro-life/pro-choice view point. I'm sure there will be Christians who are "persecuted" for their pro-choice views so i don't think this issue is about religious persecution, which it is what it seems to me you are making it appear about.

Given the United States recent history, and the 40 million+ unborn children killed since Roe, I am of the opinion that being pro-life has become the more progressive stance on the issue.
