Hello, I have a question for all who believe in reincarnation or some form of it. How does the population continue to multiply exponentially? where is new life coming from? Is everyone here reincarnated? If we are, it would seem that there would be a finite world population? This is a question that has plagued me during my search, and have not found a reasonable answer. Thanks

firstly, if reincarnation actually does happen, concider the possibility that you as a current person could come back next as a wolf, or a lamb, or a deer, or an ant, or any other animal.

i believe in reincarnation, but i do not believe it is an instant thing, there and countless numbers of souls not currently incarnate. when we die, our soul leaves the body, it goes on to summerland. it can stay there, it can come back to float the earth as an incarnate spirit, or it can reincarnate.

this counts for the fact that the population is constantly changing

From my understanding Ivan Stevenson is considered the leading researcher in the pseudo-science community on Reincanation. His site is here:

Personally, he was insturmental in me believing reincarnation was impossible by reading his work. But in the field of people who believe such he is considered the major player if not at least in the top 5.

This particular question could also be applied to Buddhist rebirth (which differs from reincarnation in certain specific ways). The Buddhist answer is that the earth is not the only world, or realm, where life exists; and rebirth encompasses all life in the universe, not just here on earth. All of these worlds, or realms, are in different stages, so when populations are decreasing in one location, they will be increasing in others; the system is in balance as a whole, but we only see a very small slice of it here.

Is it really a possiblity without evidence to support it or is it a faith-based proposition---which is one without supporting evidence. I would call it an idea until such time there was merit granted to the idea via evidence.

It could be likened to dimensions. Consider the multiple dimensions in String Theory. Realms could easily be just an early interpretation of multiple dimensions. Or multiple universes.

Just because the name differs doesn't mean it's any less likely. It is a religious belief, but it can be likened to actual scientific theories.
