You are absolutely correct. Jesus didn't come here to show us how to live, he came here to live a perfect life in our place, and to take on the punishment for all of our sins. The question we should ask is not WWJD, but WDJD (What DID Jesus Do?) and that is what we need to keep in mind. Sure we are to try to live a good life, but it's not going to get us anywhere without acceptance of what Jesus did for us.
