Default Do Christians hold themselves to a higher standard?

They sure seem to think so. How many times have you heard, "That certainly wasn't a very Christian thing to do."?

Anymore, I hear that very seldom, if at all. I used to hear it quite often when I was growing up many years ago. But nowadays, I just don't hear it anymore. And I live in a city that is acknowledged to be a bastion of Christianity.

But as to your first question: Do Christians hold themselves to a higher standard? I don't think so. I think some Christians might feel that they hold themselves to a higher standard than non Christians, but I see no evidence of that being true.

I wrote this cause my boss just walked in here and got all ticked off about a TV show she was watching. She said the woman was really rude and claimed to be a Christian. "Nothing makes me more angry than when someone claiming to be a Christian acts like that." she said. I said, "What about when normal () people act like that?". "Well, it makes me angrier when they claim to be a Christian." Hard for me to believe...

Christians try to live by the teachings of Jesus.
and fail because they are men and all men are sinners.
Never-the-less the standard they try to atian is never lowered.
It is for others to judge if they consider this to be a high standard or not.
For Christians it is the required standard.

As for your quotation "That certainly wasn't a very Christian thing to do."

That has now become a generic statement made by anyone not just Christians and usually means it was not a very kind thing to do.

But I suppose Christians should be pleased that their life style should be used as an example in this way.

Yes we do. We hold ourselves to the standards that Christ laid out for us. It's a work in progress, but that's what we strive for.

How is that any higher than my own, or anyone for that matter, standards?

As I said in my post that is for others to judge.

Christians try to live by Christs standards, but if you tell me they are higher than your standards I will accept that as your opinion.

Chist set the standard. The question really is do you feel your standards are on par with Jesus, who was without sin?

How are Christ's standards unique or unusual? Maybe he was, but the standards are not. His teachings and messages have been reiterated countless times before and after his time on this Earth.

Who exhibited the standards of God more perfect than Christ? Nobody before Him or after. Christ was the living Son of God. Nobody else could make that claim or have a higher standard than that.
