Do Christians hold themselves to a higher standard? (Jesus, Kingdom)

When I was growing up, calling someone a "Real Christian" in my home town implied that they were unusually selfless, altruistic, slow to condemn others, quick to see at least some good in all people, generous, self effacing, and a host of other related virtues. That view seems to no longer be current.

May be it is no longer seen as true.
Some of the strictist Christians are not very nice people.
They seem to have taken their eye off the ball.
Gods love sticks with them and is not passed on.

Our self righteousness is like filthy rags in Gods eyes, while our standards as christians should be based on what Jesus taught us, we should never ever think we are better than anyone else..We should be showing mercy apon those who are not of the faith not Judging them by how they live, Jesus came for the lost not the righteous, we too as Christians should live the example Jesus left us to follow, but we should also be the first to let our light shine in this dark world to draw others to Christ Jesus. we have to be the salt of the earth..
