There is a difference, in my opinion, between saying all of The Law is part of the commandments and saying that later commandments supplanted the first 10 that Moses gave.
But really, (Sorry for going so off topic), is there anyone who actually follows all The Laws in the Books of Moses or whatever the Law is? I've heard people say that the books of Moses aren't even the Torah. Does anyone sacrifice bulls, lambs, cakes of various "fruits" of the harvest, and so on? And it's not just sacrifice- there is a woman being put out of the camp during her monthly time and things of that nature, too. Although I am Jewish by birth (my mother's mother was Jewish), I am pretty ignorant of much of it- outside of some of the Holy Days (like Sabbath, Festival of Lights, the Seder meal and Passover, and things like that). I thought of actually converting to Judaism, but since I believe in Jesus, that is a strike against it. Again, sorry for going so off topic.

Aztecs sacrificed people and other faiths animals and no faiths sacrificed their time to argue with people with faiths in ancient books. Everyone sacrifices something eventually. Moses is obviously a story told to people ready to believe it... as is every other religion. Look at the passion of your fellow forum members or your celebrity believers in various faiths. No one is going to question that Tom Cruise REALLY believes in Scientology but how does their commitment to their belief end up registering as anything more than their personal opinion that a particular ice cream flavor is the best... Yeah Chocolate and Vanilla have the most followers but Moose Tracks is damn good too. More people knowing about chocolate or vanilla or stating it is their preferred choice means what? Does it mean Chocolate and Vanilla ice cream taste the best is a true statement we should write holy books about and defend as our beliefs or does that tell us more about what we are inclined to believe.... After all we walk around every day with beach ball sized blind spots in both eyes and never notice a thing... what else do we assume and never notice? Is Tom less enthusiastic about his faith? Are people committed to kill themselves to prove their faith less committed? Does being committed to a faith hold any value in determining whether a particular faith is true? Trying to explain how a person turned water to wine or turned dead people back to living people should invoke a certain amount of skepticism that must be ignored to continue believing that stone age people could perform magic that is now long forgotten... It requires a certain level of ignorance of how small the earth or even the milky way is in terms of the universe if the universe is really all there is and is perhaps just a product of a multiverse representing one of near an infinity possible outcomes... How much time did god according to the bible take to create the entire universe compared to creating the earth? I'm not discounting your faith just offering another flawed point of view that I have. (I no more consider my view true than I do yours...) Last edited by InsurgoInsurgiInsurrect; 07-19-2012 at 11:05 PM.. |

None of that really matters now, though, except I think I would prefer to be Jewish. I enjoyed going to a Synagogue on the occasions I went, more so than any Christian Church, although why, I don't know.

I can notice a good looking man without feeling any lust towards him, lust isn't noticing- it's wanting to "lay down" with him- and we can control that. You can't stop attraction, but attraction isn't lust, either. Something to keep in mind.

Which is fine. I am just going to say this. Maybe it wasn't your parents but your environment. America is majority christian so being born in america and saying you believe in christ is about as surprising as being born in utah and believing in joseph smith or being born in Indonesia or Pakistan as a muslim. You can rationalize how you got there but bottom line you are not a great believer in Allah, Aphrodite or Ra. Why is it you think? |

I see no problem with you refraining from using the term "christian" until you stop committing adultery if you are actually doing it now -- if you think that is correct and makes you feel better. I will not apply that as a standard to other people. But I will support your right to your own perspective, and I will back you up -- but only in applying it to yourself. As far as I am aware, Jesus never used the term "christian" so any authority over the use of the term is self-assumed, anyway. Many people use it in many different ways.
