The OP didn't say anything about religion, so I will leave religion out of it.
Sometimes morality had to do with necessity- murder is immoral because people are needed (usually). I was taught in Physical Anthropology, that tribal like people needed each person in their tribe to do various jobs- hunting, making clothing, cooking, etc, so murder is/was relatively rare in such a set up. I was taught that people who live like most of us do, don't rely on people as much, so murder is more common. The same goes with other crimes as well. Morality is made up by people- someone decides that a certain word is vulgar and passes it on for generations. And the word is still considered vulgar, although we have no idea what they word truly means and we use it for various purposes (there is a thread about vulgar words in general debates). In some societies, women go around topless and no one notices or cares, but here in the US, it is considered inappropriate. I don't know how people choose, but choose they do for things to be offended about- even if the intent was not supposed to be offensive. I believe that some things should be avoided at all times and in any society- rape, murder, child molestation, harassment, torture, and others similar. And then other things are subjective.

No, they'll follow whatever seems right to them.

Nothing? Not even his mother? Now that's remarkable because I've always understood he was born of a virgin. But if there was no such thing as a virgin to be born of then just how did his birth scenario play out?

Right. The other shadows - either their own or someone/something else's.

You've understood? Then move on to the further understanding, as well.
