Okay, both Abraham and Jacob/ Israel, practiced polygamy. They were great men. Abraham went down in history because of the Abrahamic Covenant. Jacob/ Israel was well known for the 12 tribes of Israel, and all of Israel was named after him. None of the Israelites seemed to have a problem with Abraham or Israel, they never spoke out against it. The Savior never spoke out against it. Doesn't it make sense that if the same Church was on the earth again today that you would hear something about polygamy?

Quote:
Matthew 19:3 And Pharisees came up to him, intent on tempting him and saying: “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on every sort of ground?” 4 In reply he said: “Did YOU not read that he who created them from [the] beginning made them male and female 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh’? 6 So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together let no man put apart.” 7 They said to him: “Why, then, did Moses prescribe giving a certificate of dismissal and divorcing her?” 8 He said to them: “Moses, out of regard for YOUR hardheartedness, made the concession to YOU of divorcing YOUR wives, but such has not been the case from [the] beginning. 9 I say to YOU that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.” The Savior did speak out against it. |

'the two will become one flesh' highlights Gods original standard for marriage. The man and woman were to become a single 'unit' like one body. By being devoted to each other, they would become one. But you can't become one when you have 3 or 4 or 5 in the same bed. it was imperfect men who established polygamy, not God. God is perfect and we should to strive to be like him.

I guess God overlooked that when He made them great men to remember throughout all generations. *being sarcastic*
My church has not practiced polygamy in a long time, and when they did, not everyone practiced it. Just as killing is wrong, sometimes God has commanded men to kill. Just as polygamy is wrong, sometimes God has commanded men to practice it. |

that is a mistake though.... God never commanded for polygamy to be practiced. Noah did not practice polygamy, Moses never practiced it, the prophets never practiced it and to the kings of Isreal God commanded that they NOT practice it

Not all of the prophets in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have practiced it either, only the first 4 since the Restoration. In this instance they were commanded to practice it.

He sent his son into the world to set matters straight and that is what Jesus did when he confirmed the original standard that a man and woman are to become one flesh. His apostles taught that same thing. Anything other then that is a contradiction.
