We're all human. I find it very hard to believe socio-bilogical traits are going to vary all that much among various parts of the globe. I don't know this, but I strongly suspect that the percentage of people who don't respect other peoples' dignity (in terms of respect for bodily integrity) is fairly consistent from place to place.

I'd say making ridiculous anti-Western generalizations makes one look just as ignorant as making ridiculous anti-Muslim generalizations. I suppose it doesn't matter if one doesn't mind looking ignorant.

And BTW, I can't help but feel a little bit ambushed. The OP title suggested it was about kiling in the name of democracy. I'm not sure I understand - am I missing the connection, or was it an accidental mistake?

Americans are always going to hate some group other than our own. We slaughtered the Native Americans and drove them off their lands. Then we hated each other. We've hated Russians, Communists, witches, and now Middle Easterners. We hated Japanese people so much that our government rounded our own citizens of Japanese descent. American culture hated black people so much that they were not only socially treated worse during segregation than when slavery was allowed (I'll defend this if anyone wants to hear why I believe this), they were used as leverage to make marijuana illegal. Same with the Chinese. They were hated so much we took their drug of choice away.
But I guess that might just not be an American trait. Romans hated Christians, Christians the Jews and Muslims, Spartans and Athenians had their own wars, and let us not forget that in America, Mormons are not liked very much (it was even legal to kill someone in Missouri just for being Mormon. This law was in effect until the early 70's I believe.), and gays are still struggling for equality. Transsexuals and crossdressers also face heavy discrimination at times.

Umm, if Muslims are naughty evil people and their men are all sex hungry fiends then Americans are naughty evil people and their men are all sex hungry fiends (I really hate how this has become America vs Islam instead of America vs Iran, Iraq, etc..).

Iranian Women have it better than American Women, at least they know they are being "repressed" (and I've seen a very good argument made by an Arab woman that it is actually the single men who are being singled out).

I think that there are some media reporters out there that have given up their integrity to save a dying industry. As independent (or smaller) newspapers who print on paper or that have smaller budgets are getting overran by larger ones, or internet ones, some journalists are needing to find catchy headlines to keep their jobs. Then, there are those that work more for their political faction than for their newspaper. Then some just don't care and are looking to make a good living.

We have those types of people in every industry, but the ones in the media get noticed more because they are our primary connection to the rest of the world. Its just as bad as having a corrupted engineer, corrupted pastor, corrupted scientist, corrupted X, but the media folks get noticed much more so than the rest.

Is the media biased? Some people who work for the media are.

Are all arab men naughty? No.

Does anyone care? Yes.

The fact that people decry the media as biased, unfair, corrupt, stupid, etc.. is ridiculous. An equivalent statement would be saying that because some scientists **** everything up and mess with data, that science is biased, unfair, corrupt, and stupid. This paints a bad picture for the media industry, and only compounds the problem as honest journalists are finding it harder to work in a hostile world.

I corrected myself somewhat late. Thinking about it, it's not an American trait. It's more of an unfortunate human society trait.
