So, I was at work today (I work at McDonalds, for those who don't know), and we're pretty busy what with school holidays, oodles of tourists and so on. Well, lunch today wasn't too busy, still plenty of people around, but enough crew to serve them without them having to wait in line for too long. I served this customer, and she had a fairly large order...while I was getting it, she moved away from the counter to stare out the window. Once I'd prepared her order, I called "Excuse me" to get her attention, and when she turned around, I said "It's all ready now...". Well, she came stomping over to me, snatched the bags off the counter, which I thought was a little odd, but didn't really think too much about it. Then as she picked up the tray of drinks, I said "Thank you..." (you know...come again lol), and she turned around and snarled at me "Get f-cked!". If I'd been on my game, I'd have said "You first!" lol but I guess I'm too polite for that, cause I just stood there stunned and she was gone before I could format any kind of comeback. I know I didn't do anything that would warrant being told to get f-cked (at least, not by her). Usually when customers are rude I just try to take into account that they might be having a bad day or whatever, but honestly, HOW F-CKING RUDE!!!
I know there are times when I've wanted to swear at people for their bad customer service, but I never do it. What makes people think they can do that? Just because I work in fast food, doesn't automatically give you the right to treat me like sh-t. [/rant]

The lady had what is know as a "McFit."
Seriously, I think people who are feeling like they have no power take it out on service people. You didn't deserve the treatment and you handled it well. Hopefully, since this happened you will encounter a bunch of sweeties. |

i hate people like that. it's almost like they purposely have a bad day just so they can go around and **** people off.

Don't let someone's anger cause you to be angry!
Easier said than done, but I try to make it work. Smother them in kindness, even your thoughts and prayers! Don't let them have ANY control over you and your mood. If they do, then they have "won". At least in their own small mind. |

Bastet don't read too much into it. I think you are putting too much emphasis on her body language and facial expression and not enough on the actual wording that she used. If I had been you I would have recoginzed that she was wishing me great fortune in my love life and said, why thank you and a get f*&^ked to you two my fair lady....

I think the thread title says it all.... Some people are just plain rude.
You have the choice; go 'down' to their level, and be rude back, or maintain your standards, and if you do want to reply, try not to use the same kind of language. In our 'civilized world' there are too many stresses and strains(As I'm sure you know, because of where you work); some people only need a very insignificant even to 'burst out'. If it helps, try to feel compassion for someone so overstressed that he/she needs to take it out on innocents. (Chistianity - turn the other cheek?) Hope that makes you feel beter. ![]() |

Usually it the person with the sense of authority are known to be rude. Try getting a ticket inspector on a Melbourne train..
But anyways, in the case of bastet's story, the woman may have thought that Bastet was being a "smartass", which she wasn't, she was following a policy. Some people are arrogant and take things as a "putdown"(shuddup everyone lol). Usually this is from a cause such as paranoia. At our Macca;s here, it has a procedure sheet on the counter, saying 1:greet customer 2:take order etc.. I dislike the "suggestive selling" one... Last edited by SoulTYPE01; 01-10-2005 at 03:20 AM. |

Having a job as a toll collector I have to deal with the public on a daily basis as well. I see many examples of rudeness everyday. There really isn’t much time between patrons to build up the kind of tensions that would warrant rudeness from either me or the patron but on occasion it does happen. There is one rule that I have come to notice about rude customers. Most of the time they were in that emotional state before they arrived to the toll booth. I cannot possibly imagine what kind of day they had before seeing me and I understand that. If a customer is rude sometimes it is hard to shake the feeling after they leave because there were probably many things I could have said to them but didn’t. The best known remedy is not to feed into it and do not let it effect you. Await the next customer that is friendly and courteous (which shouldn’t take long) and vindicate your trust in humankind with that individual.
