Why do people put so much faith in the belief that their opponents have a "faith-based" belief?

I can't imagine. The open admission that your beliefs are irrational and unverifiable is hardly the kind of thing that seems calculated to earn respect for those beliefs, especially if you insist that everyone else should share them.

A double edged question, no? Atheists believe theists are acting upon Faith, whilst a believer might point out that an adherent of the ToE places a lot of Faith in the possibly erroneous conclusions that are drawn from "evidence" of it.
