I'm going to see if I can get the school to let me and several other students hold a no-sleep vigil during Christmas break.
Basically, I'll be requesting that the local businesses sponser us. For example, a company might say that for every hour someone is awake, they will offer five dollars. Therefore, if there are forty students, it equals 200 bucks an hour. All of the proceeds will go to local charities, except for fifty or so dollars, which the person who stays up longest gets (an element of competition; people will stay up longer). I'm posting this to see if I can get anyone else interested. If you want, request that you can use your school's gymnasium as a base for your vigil, and then ask local companies for sponsorship. See if you can get the news involved, they love this sort of thing. I urge everyone who can, to do this. It's a bigger help to people who need it then you realize. Rules for the Vigil: 1. You must stay awake. Any sleep at all, and your part in the Vigil is over. 2. No leaving the Vigil base. 3. The person who stays awake longest gets fifty dollars. 4. All other proceeds go to charities. I'm trying to think of things we can do to stay awake. Any suggestions? Hopefully the school will agree...

Here is my request so far:
Request For No-Sleep Vigil Dear Mr. (Blank), This is a request for a no-sleep Vigil. I am requesting that the school allow us to use the school gymnasium for several days during Christmas holidays. Students will sign up to join the Vigil, and contribute to the cause. If we are allowed to use the gymnasium, I will request local companies to sponsor our Vigil. They will give us a certain amount of money per hour that someone is awake. For example, if we have twenty students, and a company offers five dollars per person awake one hour, then we earn 100 dollars. The purpose of this Vigil is to help with local charities. All of our proceeds will go to local charities, except for a small prize, which is to be offered to the person who stays awake the longest. The reason for the prize is to add the element of competition, helping people stay awake longer. I have prepared several rules for the Vigil, but as it will be in the school, you can alter them or add to them in any way you feel is necessary. These are the rules I have prepared: 1. You must stay awake. Any sleep at all, and your part in the Vigil is over. 2. No leaving the Vigil base. (The gymnasium) 3. The person who stays awake longest gets fifty dollars. 4. All other proceeds go to charities. I feel that it is a necessary endeavor to help our local charities. This is why I bring this request to you. I would like to hear any suggestions that you may have, so that I can further my effort for the vigil. Thank you. Sincerely, (Space to Sign) (My Name) Any suggestions?

1)Give the organization a name.
2)Come up with a slogan to market it with. Like no sleep until everyone eats. Something that creates an emotional response. 3) Go to the charities you propose to help and make sure they are on board with your plan. 4)Provide an activity list for those who are going to be awake. 5) Have a symbolic activity at one point during the marathon that coincides with a specfic monetary goal. 6) Have statistics on local hungar in your community so you can quantify the problem and so that your success can be measured against the problem for futurre events. 7) As a post script --after the fact go to a homeless hungry person and ask to interview one or two of them and the impact this has had on them for future events. |
