If you were to change the Christmas traditions, what would you include? What would you exclude? Why?

I'd do away with giving gifts -- except to kids.

I forgot to explain why. I think Christmas is largely a kid's holiday to begin with. So, I'd focus on the magic and mystery of Santa, etc. -- things that make kids happy.

Christmas has become a consumerism wet dream. There is so much emphasise placed on the need to "Buy, buy, buy! And do it quickly!!" Retailers and consumers alike have turned Christmas into a holiday of "how much can I buy" and I think the true meaning of Christmas has been lost in the whirlwind comercialization.
I would do away with "After Thanksgiving Day Sales" since that is when Christmas really begins in this consumer culture we live in.

I honesty wouldn't expect this answer to come from an atheist... Why wouldn't you change anything?

Less commercialization and fewer unrealistic expectations about "the most wonderful time of the year." I'm all for feasting and making merry and gift-giving, and even the decorating is okay, but I wish that people didn't drive themselves into debt to do all of this, and I wish that lonely people weren't made to feel especially lonely from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day.
Oddly enough, I don't object to the religious aspects of the holiday, as long as I'm not expected to participate in them -- and even at that, I have no objection to attending a Christmas Liturgy or a Midnight Mass or a recital of Handel's Messiah, as long as nobody tries to drag me to the Christmas play at the Baptist Church. Even an atheist can appreciate Christmas as part of our cultural heritage, and I find the truly traditional aspects of Christmas much more palatable than Santa Claus and jingle bells and all that. Personally, I don't approve of Santa Claus, but I understand that people are going to carry on whether I approve or not, and I console myself with the notion that a few children will probably figure out that God is little more than Santa for adults. ![]()

I wouldn't change anything, either. I love Christmas.
