Did you ever believe in Santa Claus? How old were you when you found out he didn't exist? Did you figure it out yourself, or did somebody tell you, or what?

From the age of about five, I really do not recall ever believing in Santa Claus, although I sort of wish this wasn't the case. I remember seeing older children then me enjoying their belief in Santa, but I did not because I knew it was my mother. I was told on the bus in kindergarten that there was no Santa by an older boy (rather I overheard his conversation to a friend that it's our parents who are the Santa Clauses).

I found out the year my parents sat me down and explained to me why I wouldn't be getting many presents that year. Santa didn't have a very big budget for Christmas & they wanted to make sure that my younger brothers and sisters were able to still enjoy things. I was around seven and the oldest child.

ugh, voted in wrong one.
My dad asked me if I liked the thought of a fat man in a tight fitting red suit who watched my every move when I mentioned Santa Claus when I was 4. It scared the crap out of me. I thought Santa Claus was the leader of the KGB for a long time.

I knew from the get-go he wasn't real. My parents were against celebrating Christmas.
I always felt a bit sorry for the other kids who had no clue, though, and had to be careful not to spill the beans to them. ![]()

I lasted until age 7 but I have no idea how I found out...probably at school where you find out all the juicy things about life.
