Default Cat lovers: What to do with a klutz
My new cat is a klutz. He's a year old, with the body of an adult but still thinking and acting like a kitten. He leaps places he can no longer fit into, falls and (I'm afraid) will hurt himself. I don't expect there's anything that can be done about it --just let him learn the hard way --but if anyone has advice, I'd appreciate it.

Also, his stool has got very hard. Do they have high fibre cat foods?

Like Kungfuzed suggested, try to keep his/her mind off of mischief. Create some tunnels for him to play in, or get him something to chase like a remote controlled car as Kung mentioned. I wouldn't go with a lazer pointer though. I've seen a dog go mentally crazy because his owner and friends used a lazer pointer on him all the time. Ultimately the dog (which is the African Bowerbowl breed, which can be used to hunt Lions in Africa, and is close to 200 pounds) was afraid of his own shadow, because he was literally looking for a lazer pointer all the time even when no lazer pointers were on. Although I don't know what effect lazer points have on cats over the long run.

Make sure he has ample water available at all times, and in a pinch, give him a bit of butter daily.

Does he have any hairball problems?

Also, there are vitamins you can get that are fat-based, and that might help as well, in more ways than one.

What kind of food are you feeding the cat? What brand? Dry or wet?

He'll learn grace and agility, he just needs to grow into it

Oh, it sounds like they just overdid it with the lazer pointer. As long as it doesn't get the cat's eyes, there isn't any problem.

I only use mine maybe 5 minutes at a time, and at most a couple times a day, and not every day.

A dowel with string and some craft feathers tied and glued on the end of the string is also good.

And my cats absolutely love furry mice. Especially the ones that rattle a bit when you move them.

We also use the plastic rings off milk jugs,when we get them, though they tend to end up under the stove or fridge.

And never underestimate the fun that can be had with paper bags.

For some odd reason, I haven't tried that yet, but they must love it, as it sounds "crinkly" and cats love anything like that.

I had one cat that used to love to watch the Weather Channel, back in the 80s when it was mostly someone in front of the weather map. He would try to paw the forecaster's arm as he pointed out regions of weather in the country. What an odd cat.
