I call it the unholy pilgrimage...
Every year at this time it happens. The entire population of Bosnia is on the move. Where, you say? Take a look at the road sign for a clue. Bosnian roadsigns have the town closest to the current position at the bottom of the list. This sign is closer to Mostar, for example, than to Dubrovnik - and that's your clue: Dubrovnik! ![]() The journey causes traffic jams on the entire length of every highway to the coast, even in the most remote areas far from any village, town, or city. These people are still more than an hour outside of Dubrovnik driving 100 km/hr. When you're literally not moving at all, though, it takes longer... ![]() ![]() And what is all this for? What's at the end of this unholy pilgrimage? The Jewel of the Adriatic, of course. The Balkan's Sin City - Dubrovnik! ![]()

Did you take that picture of the street sign yourself? I'm sure you did.

Our roads used to be like that at peak holiday times. These days they are like that much of the time. Strangely, the roads are sometimes jammed in both directions. I do not know if this is common outside the UK, but here many married couples have three cars - his, hers, and the one they use when they are together!
