I think that Ingrid Bergman was his female counter part. Others have talked about Peter Sellers. Another great is Gene Wilder. For both of these guys, it's because of a certain "darkness"/complexity that shines thru. As for people alive today: Keanu Reeves, because he is sooo dreamy. And yes, I know he can't act. Anthony Hopkins, because he's the best character actor alive right now. Denzel Washington - handsome, generally good actor, edgy Johnny Depp - generally handsome, good actor, edgy Robin Williams!!! - did you see him in Insomnia and One Hour Photo??! Emma Thompson - as good as Anthony Hopkins Jodi Foster Hillary Swank ....

Lilithu -
I have to agree with you on a couple of those - Gregory Peck was unreal. I absolutely loved him as Atticus Finch, in "To Kill A Mockingbird". I'll also "Amen" the Sir Anthony Hopkins nod, as well. If you have never seen it, you ought to rent a movie from the late 70's - called "Magic". He plays a ventriloquist that gets taken over by his dummy. Great movie, and a preview of the talent that he has. He also has a hilarious role in a movie called "The Road to Wellville" - he plays a bucktooth charlatan in the mid 1800's. TVOR
