I tend to use the word "beauty" to refer to the whole person, not just their looks. Recently, I came across Reb Chaim HaQoton's argument that this usage of "beauty" was very much in line with the Torah. ( http://rchaimqoton.blogspot.com/2006...uty.html#links )
I'm curious, however, whether anyone else tends to reserve "beauty" to refer to the whole person? If so, do you include someone's spirit in your reference to their beauty? Do you include someone's moral character in your reference to their beauty? Do you include someone's personality in your reference to their beauty? Do you include someone's character in your reference to their beauty? How would you define beauty, anyway?

I think beauty is everyone of the above; I love observing people. Quite often I will see someone who seems to radiate 'beauty', and that need have nothing to do with looks or sex. I don't know what it is, but I recognise it when I see it; one of the components, I believe, is (and I don't know how I can recognise it, but I am sure I do), compassion, and inner peace.

The term "beauty" is composed of both physical and character components. A moderately attractive person is beautiful to me when combined with a strong, compassionate personality. Therefore, I find most of my friends and family beautiful.
When I think of women I am attracted to, I rarely think of their appearance (sometimes I can't even formulate a clear mental image of their appearance), but rather their personalities and spirits. However, I am not so noble as to completely shun the physical aspect of beauty. An terribly ugly person with a great personality is still ugly. ![]()

My girlfriend is beauty. I say that because she means something very special to me and when I see her my heart beats a few more times a minute

I find that often, physical beauty quickly diminishes in my eyes if I find the person to have an undesirably personality/moral code etc.
