Found it! It was in this thread!
The first time I wore feathers in my hair was at a spiritual gathering, this one focusing on learning about First Nations spirituality. The person guiding the event , Jerry White (aka "Standing Bear") was born in the Western Cherokee tradition, as well as being raised in the Christian faith. (And he still is, as far as I know.) That really made me more comfortable what was being said, since I was still a Christian at that time. (I think that would have been around 2000.) One of the things that we discussed was the Medicine Wheel, and it was suggested that we all go and try to put what we learned to use. I wandered far, far off the path, into the woods, and was working on my wheel. In this example, energy must be raised, which can be done in a myriad of ways. I was trying to do it, but felt awkward, like something was missing. I looked into my hands and was suprised to see two feathers in my left hand. I'm still not sure how they got there, but I may have unconsiously picked them up while I was walking. Feeling a sense of strange power and grace, I threaded the feathers into my hair. I felt a sense of dignity and groundedness that hadn't been there before, and began to dance around the circle with great purpose. The actions and meditations seemed to come from memory, instead of instruction, and I found myself correcting myself, like I was remembering what I'd forgotten. I caught a few glimpses of the someone that I was in a past life that had first worn the feathers, although I would learn a lot more about her/ me at a later date. At some point after the ceremony/ meditation, I was gathering up my things to return to the main area, when I noticed that Standing Bear standing by a tree, observing me. Feeling an instant flashback to the time in my second karate class where I'd worn my dad's dark tie as a belt (biiiiiiig mistake), I reached up to remove the feathers, thinking that perhaps this was something sacred, reserved for those who'd earned them. Jerry smiled and suggested I leave them in. Afterward, after a different meditation and several hours, I was returning to the main area and heard drums in the forest. When I got back, I asked who'd been drumming, and everyone there said that they'd neither been drumming nor heard any drumming. Jerry, almost as an aside, said "Maybe the spirits were just celebrating the beauty of she who dances with feathers in hair." Something about the way he said it 'twinged' my radar, like an electric current. It wasn't until almost a year later that I 'officially' took the name, but even in the interum, if there's spiritual 'stuff' that I'm pursuing, when I'm trying to act in a spiritual advisory capacity, or even just when I need to remind myself that I have power, I wear them. The types and colors change with my mood, but they always bring me that same sense of wonder.

Mine means absolutely nothing to me. Which is why I chose it. I wanted something impersonal and vague that would reveal nothing about me just by itself - but I suppose that in itself tells you a great deal about me - I'm a very private person and value my privacy and only let you in when I'm ready.

Kevmicsmi was a mythological character from Phonecian records. He was said to be well endowed, strikingly handsome, and absolutely brilliant. I just thought that description fit me well as a person.

![]() But I didn't even realize I did it until I set up my email acct, so its basically what I am known as. I use the same name on every board I go to. Does everyone else pick a new name? I'm not exactly sure of the protocall.

There have been quite a few name changes by quite a few members. (Jay changing from "Deut" to "Jay" shattered some peoples lives, I swear!) If you like the name as it is now, though, I can't see why to change it!

My last name starts with "T" and I felt like being impersonal
No relation to the wrestler whatsoever. I've actually been using this screen name for a long time. I use it for pretty much everything online related. |
