"Let me give you one definition of ethics: It is good to maintain life and to further life; it is bad to damage and destroy Life. And this ethic, profound, universal, has the significance of a religion. It is religion." -Albert Schweitzer Just felt like sharing that. ![]()

I'm unsure any ethic by itself constitutes an adequate religion, but if one could, then Schweitzer has made a good start for it.

-Albert Schweitzer Thank you for sharing that, (leave out the 'Religion' ), and it reads better (IMO). Although I would say that it is a truism in most circumstances, I can think of occasions when that has been used unwisely. I am thinking mainly of the advances in medicine where life is prolonged far beyond a stage when there is quality of life. Similarly, where a creature that would not have survived birth in nature has been 'helped' by doctors. Sometimes, I think the medical profession thinks too hard of his oath, and too little about the specific circumstances. (I know what I have said may be and will be repugnant to members - it is to me, as I read it back) Deep in our hearts, however, I think we know there is a grain of truth in it.
