I apologize to you arachnophobes (which I am, but not to such a degree I can't type about them!), but I was writing an article that happened to mention some bit of information about spiders, and now I'm trying to verify if that factoid is actually based in fact.
I believe that the statistic was something like one was never more than ____ yards from a spider, but I can't seem to find the number or even the phrase in my searches. Has anyone else heard a version of this, or know of a web (haha!) site that I could find it on?

Not quite what you're looking for, but I found this (maybe you could do some math to work it out):
There can be up to nearly 5 million spiders per hectare. http://www.thaibugs.com/Articles/spiders.htm

Fearhers, I used to be a dreadful arachnophobe; the only other creature that scared me most were snakes.
When I 'got into' Buddhism, and decided that I could no longer kill living creatures, much against my own better judgement, I decided that I had to take any spider that I found in the house outside and 'liberate it' in the garden. It worked well; I now actually catch them without thinking (even let them walk on my skin), and let them loose outside. The arachnophobia is gone; I am certain that I am no longer scared of them because I have learned to accept them as 'valuable' living beings. Just don't come near me with a snake........... ![]()

, but I try to do the same thing when I find a spider even though my wife CANNOT STAND them. I try to convince her that spiders eat the bad bugs, which they do, but still still commands me to KILL IT. Bless her heart.

Yay, thanks Bouncing! *hugs* That's much appreciated! Bastet, I wish I could say that my math was good enough to have worked that out, hehee, but thanks for looking it up!
Michel, that's actually a lot of what the article is about- my struggle with living with spiders. I've never been able to kill them, but I used to be brave enough to at least get some paper and carry them outside. Nowadays, I find them so intimidating that I just watch the wall where they're standing and then, if they move toward me, I move (very quickly!) away.

I, on the other hand, love spiders, but am too afraid to go near them... anyone who knows my story of Gregory/Gregora is familiar with this..... (Gregory(a) is the spider who lives in my room. At one point, s/he was hiding in my printer for a few days... but now i cant find it. I would never hurt it, but I'm too afraid to take it outside.... so i'm stuck with him/her breeding in my room ![]() |

Spiders are not my favorite creepy crawlies.
My grandmother almost lost her arm to a brown recluse bite.
