Like every other lefty I'm impressed by the man and his work. But, Oscar Wilde shift yourself, the sport of quoting at people seems to have a new champion.
"If liberty means anything at all......." "During times of universal deciet........" The man's words are omnipresent, and I'm sick of it. The Guardian newspaper had an article the other day in the supplement that summed it up, 'What Would Orwell Do?' was how the writer expressed it. I just thought I'd moan about it.

While I love Orwell's works, I usually prefer quotes that make nods or allude to his own quotes, since those tend to be a bit more cheerful. One has to keep an eye out for them, though. *grin*
A favorite of mine is toward the end of "Good Omens", where a main character, Adam and his dog, Dog, are sloping off into the distance. Quote:

I swear I knew that, I swear! *grin*
I was simply quoting it since it takes the "Imagine a boot" quote and turns it into something more hopeful. This probably says almost about me as my pencilling 'didn't' into the last line of 1984.
