I stay away from topics where I know my opinions will hurt other people. I love a good debate, but part of posting on forums like this is realizing that even though you don't know these people personally, you can hurt them pretty badly, even when that is not your intention. I have dropped out of more than one thread when I have realized that my point of view is offending someone.

The flip side of the coin concerns my own feelings. I am not often hurt by things people say, but I do get angry sometimes. I actually have an absolutely horrible temper, and posting on this forum has helped me learn to control it. I never try to provoke a fight, but I don't hesitate to throw a few punches in self-defense.

I actually did leave a forum once, due to hurt feelings. People whom I thought were my friends ended up turning on me and it really hurt. I didn't go back.

No worries Lord Roghen, You should be able to start any thread that you feel would make for good conversation and/or debate. You have not upset me. This thread was intended to ask a curiosity based question with a little background story so people would understand where I was coming from, so don't feel bad.

I understand where you are coming from completely. I'm new so I probably make people crazy about inquiring about subjects they've answered dozens of times, but I've been here long enough to feel like a broken record in some catagories... like science and religion (aaaaah!!! runs screaming into the night...). Ignore the threads and, dare I say it, members that are causing the stress and continue to enjoy rf, because we'd miss you if you left.

I'm glad you're not leaving!!! I mean, otherwise how would you ever get to enjoy that giant cranberry? Or read a silly debate with Al and I? Or discuss my whips in random threads????

I find that I need a break from RF once in a while too. Several topics press my buttons and get me frustrated more quickly than others: 1) anti-religion threads; 2) anti-evolution threads; and 3) anti-Islam threads. Basically, I get annoyed when someone condemns something without a proper understanding of the thing they're condemning. But even more than that, I think the thing that gets to me the most is the endlessness of it. I can start off patient and respectful, and we might even succeed in coming to an understanding. And then someone new comes along and says the same things that I just finished disputing. So I start over again. And then someone new comes along again. Over and over, and each time it gets harder to stay patient and respectful. I start to get more and more short-tempered, until basically I just want to tell the person that he or she is a frickin idiot and to shut the hell up and quit polluting the world with hateful ignorance. That's when I know I have to take a break.

I have 2 words for you...IGNORE LIST! I have no problem with differing opinions, but there are some posters who are always negative, some who 'know' they are always right, and some who post the same kind of drivel in post after post after post, and those people hit my list in a hurry.

Life is too short and RF is too much fun to deal with those dimwits.
