Well, have any of you had the urge to start a commune?........I was very close to it.
(Remember, this was in the late 60's)I was ready to walk, with just what I could carry in my hands, with a group, to India, to start a commune. The first people who wanted to join were my Belgian Cousins; we would have no money (work purely on a system of barter of skills). We were about a month away, when I heard that their dad had died. They then decided that they wanted to hang around to find out what legacies they had been given...............I guess that hurt more than I can say; I felt so disallusioned....................

Don't know if this counts, micheal, but i've been fighting the impulse to jump on the next freight train west to live as a hobo for over a month now. Or maybe i'm just anxious for summer to kick in...

I lived in a commune during the 70s, but never considered starting something from scratch.

I always wanted to join one but a few things prevented it
-I was born in the wrong decade -There aren't that many left -I couldn't drive and didn't even have my first job until I turned 19 I always thought it'd be so cool to live on a commune, but, alas, I never got the chance. I don't know if I could start one from scratch though.... |

I've wanted to start a commune...........and I still do to this day. The only things preventing me are my husband and children. None of them want to start a commune nor live on one.
Being with others living with nature - it sounds so idyllic. The moments of peace I imagine would be magnified. The moments of stuggle I imagine would be magnified, too. I imagine life to be richer, more meaningful. Heck, the Amish have had their own way of living communally for a long time now. My guess is if family attitudes don't change, or family itself doesn't change, I shall wait until the next lifetime. ![]() Peace, Mystic |

I thought it was a cool idea when I was in high school, but now I don't think I could actually stand living with that many people.

I've thought about being a hermit. But bring others with me would just ruin everything.

I wanted to until I actually visited one.
