What have you got out of RF? (ritual, beliefs, choice)

I've gotten alot out of RF. I originally came here with less than admirable intentions, but what I discovered was a place full of acceptance and tolerance - and a political issues forum! I learned of faiths I never knew existed and learned more about ones I knew little about or had misconceptions about or biases against. I've gotten the chance to "meet" lots of cool people and take part in discussion and debate. But the most valuable thing I have gotten out of RF is becoming a more tolerant person to people who have different beliefs and/or ideas than me. I don't know what could be better than that - well, besides a case of beer.

I've gotten a lot out of RF, most notably, a better understanding of the LDS (thanks Becky!). I can't say I came here with any intentions in particular other than curiosity. I wanted to see if I had the ability to insert myself in a religious community and actually make friends here despite my somewhat unusual religious beliefs. I came here to find out if there were more good Christian people than bad Christian people. So far, I've been really impressed. The nutcases must be on another forum...lol.

The greatest thing I've gotten out of RF is a better relationship with my father. I've never really gotten along with him (it's a long and complicated story) and we've never had anything to talk about. All we did was argue about religion (and quite bitterly I might add). Now I'm finding I have to go back and discuss with him the stuff I'm learning here. Sometimes it's to get a better understanding of what you guys post and sometimes it's to give him a better understanding from what I've learned here. I'm amazed at how much time we spend together now discussing the bible, Christianity, and all kinds of other religions that he has absolutely no knowledge about. You guys have helped me find a connection with him that I haven't had for last 20 of my 27 years.


Yes, that is quite possibly the most emotion I've ever shown on this forum...
