Personal Revelation (Jesus, ritual, Creator, Earth, creation)

All God's children have the privilege of being enlightened byy the Spirit of Christ and receiving personal revelation throught the Holy Ghost as they earnestly seek the Lord. (Teachings of the Presidents of the Church, Brigham Youn, pg. 41).

This idea was sort of started on another thread that I made, so I decided to make a thread for it. Ideas? Opinions? Thoughts? Feelings?

The Spirit of the Lord enlightens every man that comes into the world. There is no one that lives upon the earth but what is, more or less, enlightened by the Spirit of the Lord Jesus. It is said of Him, that He is the light of the world. He lighteth every man that comes into the world and every person at times, has the light of the spirit of truth upon him. (Young, Brigham, Discourses of Brigham Young, 32)

Some scriptures to back that up;

"That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." (John 1:9 KJV)

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shal not walk in darkeness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12 KJV)

just a thought, but what if a person truely feels they have had a revelation from God, but it is in conflict with church teachings?

I'd advise that they pray on it...seek reassurance from the Holy Spirit.

im not trying to play the advocate here, but what if they pray on it, and still really feel that God is telling them something that contradicts the teachings of the church

Just kidding. I'm not sure, they should go to their Church leaders and see what they say. Each case is different. Each person is different.

The Bible says all men are given light, one the creation shows we have a creator, and two his words are written in our heart, (concscience). We may believe in Him, try to do what is right, ask forgiveness of Him if we do wrong. All men will be judged on at least that. I believe, as a Christian, that the Holy Spirit guides, illuminates, or sheds light on scripture, helps us learn and understand. The Bible says the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth.

I do not believe in on-going revelation. But I believe God helps us understand the revelation He already gave us in scripture. I cannot answer the above question, because I ask, what church? What teaching do you refer to, I would need specifics. I can say that if one studies the Bible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, with all honesty, sincerely, with all one's heart wants to know the truth, as opposed to false teaching, one can find it out. If the 'church' you are in is correct in its teachings, they will line up perfectly with the word of God. If not, they will have to stretch, maybe write 'new revelations', to fit their doctrine to the Bible. Also when dealing with spriritual revelation, Satan can appear as an angel of light, his demons as 'spririt guides', etc. So it is important to measure one's 'revelatory experience' with the word of God.

I have a question for you Joeboonda. Why don't you believe in on-going revelation? Don't we as a people on earth today need it as much, if even more then in the Old Testament and New Testament? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious. Why would God talk and then suddenly shut the heavens, do we not need His guidance anymore?
