I don't go to the theaters unless there is something worth while to see, and even then I hardly ever go. It's not worth my time. I usually wait until films come out on DVD. "Book of Mormon, Volume 1, The Journey", "Saints and Soldiers, "Marvelous Work and a Wonder", "Gods Army", "Baptists at our Barbeque", "Mobsters and Mormons", "The R.M.", "Pride and Prejudice" (LDS modern version), "Charlie", and I could go on and on. There is a lot more wholesome choices of entertainment out there than those containing sex AND violence, and no I don't limit myself to LDS entertainment.

I can think of a whole boat load of better things to do with my time, than going to a theater, and watching some of the junk that is being produced and sold to the public. There are plenty of other options, you just have to look for them. I will have to say when I go to Hollywood Video it seems to me that 95% of the stuff on the shelves is nothing but meaningless garbage entertainment. Not worth spending two hours of my life on.

A Stake President would be someone who presides over several "Wards". Each Ward would consist of several hundred or more members. A half a dozen or more wards would make up a "Stake". One of the Stake President's responsibilities would be to interview LDS members to determine worthiness to enter LDS temples. He would have to, obviously, live up to these standards as well.
Then why is he open for business on Sunday and serving alcohol? That already made him a hypocrite in the eyes of many LDS members, right? Now he's a hypocrite in everyone else's eyes too for backing out...nice job, Larry.

I commend Larry Miller for having the courage to pull this movie from his theaters.
I agree with Katzpur...that's not courage. It seems he had a lot of support in the community. Courage would have been going through with it and showing the movie like he had originally planned.

I agree. Most movies are total crap.

Given the fact that nine out of nine of the ones you listed were done by LDS film-makers, It kind of sounds like you do. I'll agree with you that "Saints and Soldiers" was an absolutely incredible movie, and "God's Army 2 - States of Grace" was also excellent (you didn't mention it). But "The Book of Mormon, Volume 1"? I'm sorry, but I thought it was an embarrassment. People don't wander through the desert for years in clothes looking like they just picked them up from the dry cleaner. And the scene with Nephi rebuking Laban and Lemual couldn't have been much more ludicrous. I was extremely disappointed.

Interestingly, I don't see those things as being hypocritical. If the guy owns an NBA basketball team, he can't exactly refuse to let them play on Sundays. And, contrary to what a lot of people may think, he's not doing anything wrong to sell beer at the basketball games. Now if he were to drink it, that would be different.

Disappointing, but to be expected. Heath Ledger has been rather irritated with it.

"I heard a while ago that West Virginia was going to ban it. But that's a state that was lynching people only 25 years ago, so that's to be expected."

I think if people who just disagreed with the message of the movie didn't watch it would send a clearer message . . . money talks

Heath Ledger: "Personally, I don't think the movie is (controversial) but I think maybe the Mormons in Utah do. I think it's hilarious and very immature of a society."

Since when did Larry Miller become spokesman for the Mormon church? I love it when people show their ignorance as they try and criticize someone else's ignorance. I'll probably think twice before seeing another movie with this guy in it, which is sad because I usually like them.

Well, the article didn't mention why the owner pulled the film, so I can't comment on his motives. As I stated in another thread on this same story, it is possible that the owner felt his property was in danger from fanatical anti-gay people if the movie was shown. I am saddened that people feel they can't or won't show a movie just because it has a gay theme. There are many, many movies that are not to my taste and I won't go see them, but I do not think the movies should not been shown at all just because it's not my cup of tea.

I wonder how many people who object to this film simply because there are gay characters in it, will shell out $12 to go see a slasher film with blood and gore and murder? Granted, some people like that stuff, but others find it objectionable... should those movies be pulled too?
