You know, then again, when a single person holds a monopoly on a given industry, as Katzpur indicates is the case in Utah, they should be a bit more flexible in their thinking. However, public demand will appeal to his business sense, if enough people asked him to show the film. If the theatres showing the film had huge lineups night after night... he would probably rethink his position pretty fast. Successful business type are not generally too stupid when there is money to be made.

Larry Miller as a Stake President has to uphold certain standards as a business man, otherwise he should not be Stake President. He should be held to the same standards as common members of the LDS religion. Afterall a Stake President asks some pretty hard questions of worthiness when entering the House of the Lord, His holy temple. Larry Miller needs to live by the same standards set forth by Christ and His LDS church, for entering His Holy Temple. Larry Miller would otherwise be a hypocrite.

Nationwide, Brokeback Mountain is in fewer than 500 theatres. Compare that King Kong or Narnia, which are each in over 2000 theatres.

First of all, what's a Stake President?
Well, I just saw the movie. I thought it was a great story, but then, I'm not a Christian either, so I can't say what most of you would think of it. I don't usually go for dramas or romance, so if I liked it, those of you who usually like this kind of stuff would probably like this movie. You'd have to be specific on your definitions of sexually explicit. It's not a porno or anything, but there are a couple of nude shots and there's no question that the guys are having sex with each other. It wasn't a movie about getting your jollies off though...it was more or less about needing and wanting something that's impossible. You don't have to be gay to enjoy the movie...just open-minded. |

I think Larry Miller is still a Stake President. Katzpur may know for sure. Larry Miller would probably feel an obligation to pull the movie from his theaters, if he felt enough pressure from LDS members to do so, or if he, himself, felt it appropriate to do so.
