I think you can buy chains for bikes. I used to deliver newspapers, using an off road bike, in the snow. It was a lot of fun, but scarry. One wrong move and you are down. I fell into a snowbank once when I lost traction. Thank goodness for the snow bank. It cusioned my fall. I have tried once to ride my street bike on packed snow. I got about a hundred feet from my house and turned back. Too dangerous, even at walkiing speed. The bike is 400 pounds and if it tips over on your leg, you are done. It's not worth it. It is impossible, to ride on packed snow, unless you have good knobby tires like off road bikes do, even then it is really hard. If you have street tires you have to use chains. It has just snowed here and i will have to wait till they plow the roads. Thank goodness I live on a main road. It only takes them an hour or so to clear the roads.
