Default Church goes techno.

In an effort to get more youth into religion, a church in my town has brought out a new
way of church for "teeny boppers"....techno church.

The church is set up like a nightclub, flashing lites, and the OOTZ OTZ OOTZ music, but, from what I heard, it's Christian dance music. The priest or sermon reader is the Dj or something like, and instead of kneeling at pews, they dance.

Have I missed something?

No, a similar thing happened hear some years ago, it was called the Nine o Clock service and was a dance club for Christians in Sheffield, it became so popular that the offical church took notice and made it's leader, Chris Brain into a minister. Eventually it all collapsed, seems Chris was on some power trip, and exploited people, esp women. I'll see if I can find a link, its quite a few years old, but still a fascinating story.

Check out my new web-page.

Cheers

K

I went to a Christian "rave" once at a mormon church. It was hilarious...they had a huge banner posted outside: the "rave" did not allow..."bump and grind" dancing, mini skirts or visible g-strings, bare midriffs, drugs, or alcohol. Inside they had techno music blasting. I only stayed long enough to get some of the girls to follow my friends and I someplace better.

I think that things like this are just another ridiculous example of how the religion tries to attract youth. It's like your grandparents trying to use street slang so you'll think they're cool. "Yo, word up hommies!...we're all fresh and totally hip now...God is rad...Jesus is da bomb...come check it out." Or like this superhero... http://www.bibleman.com/bibleman/home.jsp

To me, such things are deceptive and misleading. There is nothing techno about the bible.

The thing with the Nine O Clock service was that it started independent of the Church, and that it was the Church that was attracted to it because of it's huge succes, anyways, read on...

It sounds like you were the unfortunate victim of a stake dance. My deepest apologies. I personally wouldn't be caught dead at one. They were fun until I turned 16 and my parents let me go on real dates.

I should add that the only thing religious about them is the opening and closing prayer. Other than that they are just like a middle school dance.

This was back in high school, so you're close. And it did have that carefully chaperoned "school dance" vibe, actually.

How can you get Christian dance music?? Techno is mostly instrumental, except for a few voices here and there.

There was a club like that was started a couple years ago in a city were it was a bad idea to have it to begin with. This city is so boring, it doesn't even have real rave parties. And not to mention it claims to be "The Circus capitol of the world."

All this talk of raving makes me want to track down a DJ I know who does raves. Find out were he's going to be next and go get wasted.
